Amplifying sounds

A post in our latest news section.

This week, Year 4 investigated how to amplify sounds and measure their volume in decibels (dB). The children explored how sound travels in waves and discovered that louder sounds require more energy, which creates bigger sound waves. Using simple equipment, they experimented with different ways of making sounds louder and recorded the changes in volume. The class enjoyed seeing how altering the energy put into a sound affects its strength, and they applied their findings to real-life examples of amplified sound.
