🦴 Year 3 Explore the Bones in the Human Body! 🦴

A post in our latest news section.

This week, Year 3 have been budding scientists as they began learning all about the bones inside the human body. We started by looking closely at a diagram of the human skeleton and labelling some of the major bones, including the femur, spine, pelvis and radius. The children were fantastic at spotting where each bone belongs and enjoyed comparing the skeleton to their own bodies.

Once they were confident with their bone names, we moved on to our investigation! The children were asked to predict whether certain bones in the body might be similar in length. There were some brilliant scientific guesses, and lots of thoughtful discussion about why bones might be linked to each other in size.

Then came the practical part—measuring!

After collecting their data, the children began spotting patterns. They were amazed to discover that:

  • Their height is usually very similar to their arm span, just like real scientists have found!
  • Their foot length and the length of their radius often match closely too.

Year 3 showed fantastic teamwork, curiosity, and measuring skills throughout the lesson. We are very proud of their scientific thinking and the conclusions they drew from their own results.

Well done, Year 3! 👏🦴✨
